If he wasn’t a member of the rock star year (27), today would have been Kurt Cobain’s 42nd birthday. Here’s my Kurt Cobain story:
Back in the day, I saw Nirvana play at American University’s Bender Arena which was an oversized gym that felt like the “Smells Like Teen Sprit” video. I was a young kid and didn’t weigh anything so I always ended up crowd surfing and getting tossed all over the place. This time, I ended up getting thrown towards the front of the crowd and got launched over the rail. The one time I would have liked security to be there and keep me from falling on the ground, they were helping someone else. The crowd ended and gravity took over, but on my way down I pointed to Kurt and screamed “You’re the man!!” As I landed on my back, Kurt smirked at me, shook his head like I was an idiot, and kept playing. I jumped up as the bouncer grabbed me and escorted me away. My neck and back were sore for days, but it was definitely worth it!
